O'Reilly's "Learning the UNIX OS"

Earlier this month I have posted that I'm willing to learn the basics of the Unix system [link] and I have ordered a book from Amazon to get me started. Well, the book arrived yesterday and it looks nice. I have skimmed through chapters to check my mood if I would go through this book or not and now I'm sure I will end it in a matter of days though hopefully I would come out with something good.

The book is called "Learning the UNIX Operating System" by Jerry Peek, Grace Todino-Gonguet and John Strang. It is published by O'Reilly Media, Inc. and it's the fifth and latest edition of its series. With less than 160 pages of simple examples, explicated commands and a quick reference guide, this book offers more than what I could ask for.

Now I know this book won't make me a professional Unix user but at least it will enlighten me about a lot of things regarding my Mac and its applications, it also contains useful command lines and exercises to help with troubleshooting some of the common problems so it's all good.

Crazy? No.

welcome to the world where even small letter and big caps makes difference....welcome to the world of complexities! welcome to the wonder world where you mount a disk on one operating system with plain command and if you use the same on a different flavour, it mounts the disk after wiping the data on it! but its interesting to work on those bash shells...believe me....indeed exciting...

Exciting for the moment. I know myself. This is just a new fad for me although some people think it's a good way to waste time. Besides, I know I wouldn't try to mount disks outside OS X so rest assured, I will burn my Mac on experimenting, slowly though. =P

Yepp, I've been enjoying it so far. I'm almost done with the first chapter and I got some simple commands such as ls and it's options, date, who...etc. So far so simple, I know it'll get more complicated than that sooner or later.

Glad to know you find my blog interesting. ;)
