Review | Saso Restolounge

I should have reviewed this restaurant long ago but I forgot about it and now after having yet another bad experience I am going to give my honest opinion about it.

They say "Don't judge a book by its cover". In Saso's case this should be literally converted to "Don't judge a restaurant by its decoration".

Saso Restolounge stands sheerly on its environment. Cosy lighting, comfy seats, fairly good service and best of all pretty much well priced. So what's the matter? Isn't that good enough to make the "book's cover" embellished? The answer is a big NO.

People go to restaurants to eat. Whether they're in for a large meal or a small plate of dessert, food is what really matters. Saso's food might be well presented but it's nowhere near tasty. The menu is full of vapid choices including cheap sushi made from Al-Wazan rice and Mazolla mayo. Tasteless pre-made soup with a pH value of 6. Chewing on their steak is like chomping on a cow's feet. Word of advice, sushi and mayo don't mix up, Maki's style is overrated.

Further more their bill was decently priced but I have no idea how they came up with "**.013 fils"! Imagine having to pay those 13 fils in cash.

Eating there is one thing and getting there is something else. I don't know what's up with that restaurant and smelly places. In all three places that you can find Saso you can smell rotten eggs. It's more like a vapor cloud flying over the restaurant wherever it opens.

You probably think I'm exaggerating. Well I'm not. On my scale from 10 Saso respectively comes second from bottom, right above Munch. Go there and try it yourself. Just don't forget to wear a gas mask before going in.

OMG you just cannot be serious!
Saso as in the THE Saso???!
Which branch you went to?

I honestly cannot believe the bad review you just wrote. Their food is deliciously amazing!

I don't know why you've tried the sushi when you could've tasted their Mushroom Confit, Mushroom Risotto and Penne Sisi .. they're the best pastas i've ever tasted.
Chicken Caesar Salad, and their Saso slider are extremely appetizing.
Manzo Sloppy Joe (a steak dish) is a dish from heaven and Pollo Con Creme is a chicken dish that waters the mouth.

I'm really blurred. Because every time i think of gourmet food i think Saso. Actually, me, my friends and my colleagues are frequent customers of it!

That was terribly honest and fun to read. :)

Reviews that aren't carried with the hype are so rare nowadays, it seems like everyone have the same exact sentiments when it comes to restaurants :)

Good thing I have a diminished smelling sense, but when it comes to food I think they aren't that great, they are just fine and nothing out of ordinary, maybe you had your expectations set too high.

I think they soak their stuff with sauces that overkill the flavors and to me that isn't high on my list. The sliders are mediocre at best and possibly the pasta is their best option which is still average. It's a place to have a meal at if it happens that you are near it and has to eat something with no other options.

Hi Ya MacaholiQ8.

Thanks for taking the time to visit us.

We're sorry you a less than impressive experience at SASO.

We really try hard to maintain consistency and quality but as with all restaurants, it's always a challenge to please everybody's taste buds :)

Regarding the outdoor smell, well you're 100% right.

We would have loved to have taken a prime spot in a mall but it was beyond our scope at the onset of the project in 2008.

We've since opened 2 other branches including our flagship location at the Free Trade Zone.

I hope you get a chance to stop by and give us another chance.

Thanks again and all the best

What sort of food critic are you! You have no idea about food or ingredients used and you think you can write reviews!!

We dine quite frequently at Saso since their first outlet opened in sharq. I agree they have had their ups and downs.

Mr. Macaholi, sad to know that you cant differentiate between sushi rice and Al Wazzan rice, or even Mazola mayo or Japanese mayo!! Seems like you are so used to Mazola mayo, all mayo tastes like Mazola to you.

"sushi and mayo don't mix well" Have you heard of something called new style makis!! Well that ws what you tried.

Now soups, name me a restaurant that serves creamy mushroom soup that is made to order!! Its always premade!!

Buddy a word of advice for you : Stop food reviews and stick to your regular 'Bazar al Bazur' where you could feel the real taste of your fav Mazola mayo!!

@ Loala
Went to Dasman branch, twice. As mentioned in my post decor and presentation were great but I did not like the food. It's a matter of taste and we all agree on that. :)

@ Mathai:
People don't like honest opinions nowadays. I guess I should share my account and let them write for my taste next time. :/

@ Anonymous:
Seeing how nice it looks from the inside I guess yeah I had my expectations set way too high.

@ SASO:
Welcome to my blog. Actually that was my second bad experience. I'm not sure I'm ready for a third one. Good luck.

@ Just:
First of all, welcome to my blog. Please underline the last part... My blog. I am free to share my own opinion and you're welcome to comment. Don't like it, don't comment. Simple as that. I could have removed your comment instantly but that'll only make you a hero.

1) Taste = individuality. You like it doesn't mean we all do.

2) Please don't take my words out of context. It took you 30 minutes to compose a reply out of my post. You already look bad. One thing you should try resolving for 30 minutes... Metaphor; Al-Wazan and Mazola... get it? I don't think you do.

I don't have to justify myself to you nor anybody. I'm not a food critic yet I don't need your advice regarding what I like and obviously you don't need mine. Go bug someone else about their own taste.

@ Yu:
What's in it to you?

Funny how a lot of visitors to this particular post came through email links. I guess this entry is being forwarded to Saso-fan fort.

........ pffffffttt. Spare me.

Sure, I know it is your blog, and when you write stuff what you alone feel is right, I have the right to post a comment as well. Its up to you to delete the post or not!! after all its your blog...

When you are not sure about the quality of the ingredient used in a restaurant, you could always ask the manager or the chef to show you the product that is used. In this case the mayo or the rice.

That will ensure you are not blogging your imagination, at least some facts will be involved and this would do justice to the concerned!!

All the best!

Anyway you have mentioned in your profile that you are a Mc Donalds fan and you love junk food.

Well, I guess no explanation required.

No offense intended, its all a matter of taste.

It's amazing how a mere personal review has turned into a debate!! From being sarcastic to trying to tone down then upping the tone back again.

Well Macaholic, I do agree with you to the point, it's funny that even a restaurant rep was more polite and sensible than others!!

@ Just:
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

I don't live solely on junk food. I'm a human being and eat pretty much what normal people eat thus saying that I like McDonald's doesn't necessarily mean I eat nothing but junk food.

Do you think asking the manager/chef for ingredients will grant an answer to my inquiry? I don't think a good restaurant would simply giveaway their ingredients to anyone. I assume you did not understand what I meant when I said "metaphor" on my last comment.

Al-Wazan = Cheap rice.
Mazola mayo = Cheap mayo.

Saso had their sushi made with cheap rice and cheap mayo. Metaphor.

I'm not going to explain again because and don't need to justify my context.

I'm still wondering... What's in it to you?

@ Touche:
Amazing indeed. True true. :/
