Look at me, I'm an attention b@stard!

Yesterday I was driving back home from Salmiya and on my way near Shi3ib club stoplight there was an old Suburban, whoever drives near it stops for a while then starts to wave and leave until one car stopped and the guys inside came out of their car and started dancing while pointing and laughing their heads off at the Suburban. It was odd and we were curious to find out what's in the Suburban so I got closer to it and guess what we saw? An old guy (mid 40s) is playing Bagpipe (Habban) in the car while driving! The scene was extremely hilarious!

My friend had seen him before, he said this guy has been cruising around playing that instrument for quite a while now so don't get shocked when you see him next to you in Gulf Road.

The funny thing is, despite his lame way of attracting attention, he plays very well with that stupid instrument. It really amazes me what people do to attract attention. Some go as far as humiliating themselves.

My Nu Car

Well, looks like nobody guessed it.
I know a lot would go like "But, didn't you find a better car?".
To those I say "You're not the one who will be driving it" so here it is....

*drummmmss*

I've killed a Hen

Not really, but I've broken some eggs. And why would I do that?

Because I got a new car! It's not that I believe in such stuff though it wouldn't harm anybody to break four eggs under the wheels now would it?

Now until I get pictures of the car I'll keep it open for you to guess so start guessing! :P

Hint: Not an American car.

My "Wasta" in Action

*Internal phone ringing*

Me: Hello?
Vice Principal: ****** please report to principal's office.

Me: Salaam, you wanted to see me?
Principal: Yes, have a seat.
Me: No thanks, I've been sitting all day long, I rather stand up.
Principal, with a sarcastic tone: No no, I don't want you to hurt your back since you have a back disc so have a seat.
Me: *smiles and takes a seat*
Principal: Why haven't you mentioned that injury when you first arrived?
Me: Umm, I don't know.
Principal: Well if you have mentioned it earlier we wouldn't have sent your name to the observation committee at first place.
Me: And?
Principal: And, now that we know about it, we have withdrawn your name off the observation committee but we needed a replacement.
Me, with a huge smile: Okay! So?
Principal: That is all. We will send ******* instead of you.
Me, overjoyed but not showing it: Ok thank you. Hope I didn't cause any trouble.
Principal: Honestly you did but we took care of it.
Me: *wth?* Ahem, ok thanks anyways.

--------------

This is the ending that I've been hoping for out of my unplanned wasta. Looks like bad things can be of good use sometimes, regardless of what might be the consequences later on.

Sony α A100H dSLR

Finally it has arrived! I've been itching to get one since last year but a lot of stuff came up and I couldn't buy it back then so now here it is; the mighty Sony Alpha dSLR with SAL18200 high zoom lens (A100H kit).

"One of the nice things that I love about this camera is the fact that it has a vibration reduction system built inside the camera itself. This means when you want to expand your lens selection, you don't have to debate about buying VR (vibration reduction) or non-VR lenses. All lenses automatically become VR.

Another good thing is that it supports almost all the Minolta lenses - and there are quiet a good selection of them available. And because Minolta has been taken over by Sony, there are plenty of Minolta lenses that you can buy for a very good price." --Cajie

Now if you have seen Cajie's flickr you know for sure that his words can be taken for granted. Therefore his quick review made me more confident to buy this camera.

I was looking for a start in the photography field but most other dSLRs with +10mp are very expensive compared to this one (309KD including lens and shipping). Still trying to get used to its functions. I'll review it whenever possible.

That's it for now. Goodbye Lumix & welcome Alpha.

An Unplanned "Wasta"

In relation to my last entry about MOE*, I found a solution that should keep me away from that aggravating task.

Last year I had an injury in both hands. I went to a lot of doctors but all they did was recommending various pain killers (pills, waxes, wrist support gloves...etc.) but none did me any good and the injury kept getting worse until I had to take several cortisone shots to cure it.

Before that I was asked to do MRI to stand on what could be the problem. Oddly enough, I was diagnosed with something else before they found out that what I had is nothing but a common tendon syndrome called "DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis"*; the MRI report stated the following...

Report observation:-
  • There's reduced T2 signal intensity of C3/C4 disc suggestive of early degenerative changes.
  • There's subtle disc osteophyte complex at C3/C4 indenting the anterior CSF space.
  • C4/C5 level shows small posterolateral osteophyte cuasing mild focal narrowing of the neural foramina on the right.

  • I'm not a radiologist but with a little "wikipeding" I understand that I do have back disc although I was there for my hands. However, this can be my safe ticket to stay away from that examination committee!

    Wish me luck.

    Praise MOI & F*ck MOE

Praise MOI: Praise them for dropping all residency issues for this month. Our maid is halfway to Philippines without having to pay one fils. [*]

F*ck MOE: F*ck them for making my job even more miserable than it already is. Seems like I've angered the MOB (my school administration) after filing a transfer request [*] so they ganged up on me and sent my name to the elders examination committee, once again, to be in the middle of the most chaotic exams observation committee. Currently taking Vitamin-W (aka "Wasta") to keep my name out of it. Hope the plan I have in mind works.

This has gone way too far

Once again with Imagine Publishing, it took them four months to deliver my one and only copy of Web Designer magazine back in January 2007 and I haven't collected any other issues ever since, that's another four months. I subscribed to that magazine thinking I will be saving myself the hassle of having to go to the bookstore to buy each issue but it looks like I was wrong. Such inconvenience should be put to an end.

    Caught Red-Handed

I have placed an online order a few days ago but before that I had to double check all expenses to make sure the transaction will go without problems. What I bought costs $998 USD including shipping fees, which should be around 290KD. To be exact, today 2nd of May 2007, $997.93 USD equals 288.563KD [*].

Now I checked my visa statement to see 295KD deducted from my visa account [*]. I'm not good in mathematics but apparently NBK charged more money. That's +5KD over today's currency rates.

Transaction fees? I don't think so.

Seems like our good ol' camel is sucking on a leak.
